Borisoglebsky, Yaroslavl Oblast

Borisoglebsky is an urban locality and the administrative center of Borisoglebsky District of Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia, located on the Ustye River, 16 kilometers from Rostov and 77 kilometers southwest of Yaroslavl. Population: 5,646; 5,957; 6,327; 4,600 (1968). The settlement's principal tourist attraction is the famous Borisoglebsky Monastery, now a museum. The monastery is named after Saints Boris and Gleb.

Spaso-Yakovlevsky Monastery

Spaso-Yakovlevsky Monastery (Спасо-Яковлевский монастырь) situated to the left from the Rostov kremlin on the Rostov's outskirts. Monastery was founded in the 14th century by St Iakov of Rostov. The earliest kept building of a monastery is Zachatievsky Cathedral (Cathedral of Conception of St Anna). It has been constructed in 1686. Another 17th century building is Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral (Savior Transfiguration Cathedral) which once belonged abolished Spaso-Pesotsky Monastery.

Lake Nero

Lake Nero is a shallow, highly eutrophic lake in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia. The lake has an area of 54.4 km², a maximum length of 13 km, width 8 km and depth 3.6 m. The bottom of the lake is covered with thick layer of silt sapropel (a sort of ooze used as fertilizer and for other purposes). The lake is estimated to be about 500 thousand years old, making it one of a few pre-ice age lakes in central Russia. The first people settled at the lake at 6 thousand years ago.

Sarskoye Gorodishche

Sarskoye Gorodishche or Sarsky fort (Russian: Сарское городище, literally "Citadel on the Sara") was a medieval fortified settlement in the Yaroslavl Oblast of Russia. It was situated on the bank of the Sara River, a short distance from Lake Nero, to the south of modern Rostov, of which it seems to have been the early medieval predecessor.
