The stauropegial Convent of St. Ambrose and Our Lady of Kazan (Казанская Амвросиевская ставропигиальная женская пустынь, Kazanskaya Amvrosiyevskaya stavropigial'naya zhenskaya pustyn') is a Russian Orthodox convent in the village of Shamordino, Kaluga Oblast, Russia. It was founded near the village of Shamordino in 1884 with the blessing of Saint Ambrose of Optina. It is located on the Serena River, 12 km from Optina Monastery.

Moshonki

Moshonki is a rural locality in Meshchovsky District of Kaluga Oblast, Russia, located 155 kilometers southwest of Moscow River Serena (A tributary of the Oka tributary Zhizdra). Crossing the village is the Moscow–Kiev railway line. The nearest station at Kudrinskaya is about 7 kilometers away from Moshonki. The best known feature of Moshonki is the structure of the place Alexander Nevsky Church from the 18th century, which was built in the 1930s, destroyed by a fire, and recently rebuilt.

Optina Monastery

The Optina Hermitage is an Eastern Orthodox monastery for men near Kozelsk in Russia. In the 19th century, the Optina was the most important spiritual centre of the Russian Orthodox Church and served as the model for several other monasteries, including the nearby Shamordino Convent. It was particularly renowned as the centre of Russian staretsdom.

Kozelsky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the twenty-four in Kaluga Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,523 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Kozelsk. Population: 41,802; 44,775; 47,822. The population of Kozelsk accounts for 43.6% of the district's total population.

Sosensky

Sosensky is a town in Kozelsky District of Kaluga Oblast, Russia, located in the southeast of the oblast, 90 kilometers southwest of Kaluga, the administrative center of the oblast, and 10 kilometers from Kozelsk, the administrative center of the district. Population: 12,392; 12,623; 13,275. It was founded in April 1952 as the coal-mining settlement of Tsentralny Kozelskogo stroyupravleniya (Центра́льный Козе́льского стройуправле́ния).
