Vainikkala

Vainikkala is a small village in Lappeenranta South Karelia, Eastern Finland. Vainikkala is known to most people as a border town between Finland and Russia. Battle of Tienhaara

The Battle of Tienhaara was a part of Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union fought north of Viipuri on June 22 after the Red Army had captured Viipuri. Having lost Viipuri Finns concentrated their defense to the Tienhaara region which offered favourable area for defense with nearby waterway cutting the already narrow battlefield into several islands.

Lake Nuijamaa

Lake Nuijamaa is a lake on the border between Finland and Russia next to the town of Nuijamaa. It is part of the Saimaa Canal linking Vyborg Bay in the Baltic Sea to Lake Saimaa in the Finnish Lakeland.

Maly Vysotsky Island

Malyj Vysotsky is an island in northwest Russia, that was leased to Finland. It is located in Vyborg Bay, next to Vysotsk, 12 km southwest of Vyborg. Between 1918 and 1940, the island was a part of Finnish territory, and was called Ravansaari. It was inhabited by nearly one thousand Finns, who earned their livelihood mainly from the timber industry.
