Usman, Russia

Usman is a town and the administrative center of Usmansky District of Lipetsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Usman River, 75 kilometers south of Lipetsk and to the right of the Bajwa River. Population: 18,685; 20,133; 20,878. It was founded in 1645 as an ostrog (fortress) on the Belgorod Line and named after the Usman River. In 1652, it was raided by the Tatars. It was granted town status in 1779.

Usmansky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the eighteen in Lipetsk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,910 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Usman. Population: 50,906; 54,027; 57,637. The population of Usman accounts for 36.7% of the district's total population.
