Edendale Hospital

Edendale Hospital, established in 1954, is a 900-bed regional and district hospital in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa, operated by the KZN Department of Health. Edendale is a teaching hospital — a satellite campus for the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine (since 2000). It forms part of the Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Hospital Complex which includes Grey's Hospital.

KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden

The KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden is situated along Mayor's Walk, in the western suburbs of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It was established in 1874. Plants from eastern South Africa and from the Northern Hemisphere are cultivated here. The garden is open every day of the year, from 8am to 6pm in summer, and from 8am to 5.30pm in winter. It features a century old lane of plane trees, leading northwards from the entrance, and a forested hillside with a number of footpaths.

Pietermaritzburg railway station

Pietermaritzburg railway station is the main railway station in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is located on Railway and Pine Streets in the South Western corner of the city centre. The station is a stop on long-distance passenger rail services operated by Shosholoza Meyl. Historically, the station is famous as being the place where Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off a train for riding first class in 1893.

Harry Gwala Stadium

Harry Gwala Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United. In 2008 the stadium had a capacity of 10,000, but around September 2009 it was upgraded to 12,000 seats. The reason for this, was an urgent need for more high capacity stadiums in the region, particular being requested as part of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup.

City Oval

City Oval is a multi-purpose stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for cricket matches and hosted two matches during the 2003 Cricket World Cup. The stadium has a capacity of 12,000 people. It has a tree within the boundary ropes, similar to St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury.
