Axarquía

Axarquía is a comarca of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is the wedge-shaped area east of Málaga. Its name is possibly traced back to Arabic الشرقية ("Ash-sharquía", meaning "the eastern region"). It extends along the coast and inland. Its coastal towns make up the Costa del Sol Oriental. The natives of the region are called axárquicos. Its capital is Vélez-Málaga. The Vélez, Algarrobo and Torrox rivers all run through the region. Its highest mountain is La Maroma.

Benamargosa

Benamargosa is a town and municipality in the region of La Axarquía in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The municipality is situated approximately 11 kilometres from Vélez Málaga and 46 from the provincial capital. It has a population of approximately 1,500 residents. The natives are called Mangurrinos and exhibit increased homozygosity.

Benamocarra

Benamocarra is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The municipality is situated approximately 5 kilometres from Vélez Málaga and 41 from the provincial capital. It has a population of approximately 3,000 residents. The natives are called Benamocarreños. Its mayor since 2003 (reelected in 2007) is Abdeslam Jesús Aoulad Ben Salem Lucena of the Partido Andalucista.

Cútar is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The municipality is situated approximately 10 kilometers from Vélez-Málaga and 32 km from the provincial capital of Málaga. It is located inside the comarca of La Axarquia. It has a population of approximately 650 residents. The natives are called Cuatreños and their nickname is Pelones.

Alcaucín

Alcaucin is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It borders with the province of Granada. The municipality is situated approximately 54 kilometers to the city of Málaga. It is 507 km from the capital of Madrid. The name was derived from al-kautín, the Arabic of "the arches. " It has a population of approximately 1,600 residents. Natives of the town are called Alcaucineños and have the nickname of tiznaos.
