Ricote

Ricote is a Spanish municipality in the autonomous community of Murcia. It has a population of 1,509 (2004) and an area of 87.7 km² . Ricote had a community of Moriscos (crypto-Muslims) until the 1609 Expulsion of the Moriscos from Spain. Scholars Govert Westerveld and Prof. Francisco Márquez Villanueva of the Harvard University believe that the name of the Morisco character Ricote in Don Quixote is derived from the village.

It belongs to the parish of Santiago. It has a population of 12,917 (as of 2005). Abarán belongs to the comarca of Vega Alta del Segura, the capital of which is Cieza. Abarán and Cieza share a healthy rivalry.

Puente de la Pólvora

El Puente de la Pólvora (Spanish for the Black-powder Bridge) was a metallic bridge with stone abutments spanning the Segura River. The structure was completed with five stone arches on the left side of the bridge designed to span the river flood plain.
