Latakia Camp

The Latakia camp is an "unofficial" Palestinian refugee camp located within the municipal boundaries of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast. Established in 1955-1956 on an area of 220,000 square meters, most of the refugees originate from the city of Jaffa and villages in northern Palestine. As of June 2002, the number of registered refugees living in Latakia camp is 6,354. Fishing provides a small income for many refugees.

Al-Assad Stadium

Al-Assad Stadium (also known as Al-Basil Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium in Latakia, Syria. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000 spectators. The stadium was opened in 1978 and completely renovated in 2004. It is home to Syrian Premier League football clubs Hutteen SC and Tishreen SC. The complex includes a nearby Olympic size swimming and diving pools and a hotel.

Latakia District

Latakia District is a district of the Latakia Governorate in Syria. At the 2004 Census it had a population of 526,888. The centre of the district is the city of Latakia. Latakia and the surrounding districts became a separate autonomous state under a Mandate given to France by the League of Nations and remained so for two years until its incorporation into the larger, French Mandate of Syria in 1923.

Latakia

Latakia, or Latakiyah (and often locally transliterated as Lattakia), is the principal port city of Syria, as well as the capital of the Latakia Governorate. In addition to serving as a port, the city is a manufacturing center for surrounding agricultural towns and villages. According to the 2004 official census, the population of the city is 383,786.
