Rhaphanaea
Rhaphanaea (Raphanea, Italian Rafanea) is a Catholic titular see. The original diocese was in Syria Secunda, a suffragan of Apamea. Rhaphanaea is mentioned in ancient times only by Josephus, who says that in that vicinity there was a river which flowed six days and ceased on the seventh, probably an intermittent spring now called Fououar ed-Deir, near Rafanieh, a village of the vilayet of Alep in the valley of the Oronte. The ancient name was preserved.

Kafr Laha
Kafr Laha is a town in the Homs Governorate north of Homs in northern Syria. In 2004 it had a population of 20,041 according to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Syria. Its inhabitants are predominantly Sunni Muslims. It is the largest town in the Houla region. Nearby localities Tallaf to the northeast, Tell Dahab to the north, Aqrab to the northwest, Qarmas and Maryamin to the west, al-Taybah al-Gharbiyah to the southwest and Taldou to the southeast.

Houla massacre
The Houla massacre was an attack that took place on May 25, 2012, in the midst of the Syrian civil war, in two opposition-controlled villages in the Houla Region of Syria, a cluster of villages north of Homs. According to the United Nations, 108 people were killed, including 34 women and 49 children. While a small proportion of the deaths appeared to have resulted from artillery and tank rounds used against the villages, the U.N.

Houla
The Houla Region or Houla Plain is an an area consisting of three villages in the Homs Governorate of central Syria, northwest of the city of Homs. The villages, Taldou, Kafr Laha and Tell Dahab each have 25–30,000 inhabitants. The settlement is essentially a Sunni Muslim town surrounded by Alawite villages. Many of the inhabitants of the Houla village cluster are of Turkoman descent.
