Pripyat
Pripyat is a ghost town near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, part of Kiev Oblast of northern Ukraine, near the border with Belarus. The city has a special status within the Kiev Oblast, being the city of oblast-level subordination, although it is located within the limits of Ivankiv Raion. The city also is being supervised by the Ministry of Emergencies of Ukraine as part of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone jurisdiction.

Pripyat amusement park
The Pripyat amusement park in Pripyat, Ukraine is an abandoned amusement park. It was to be opened on May 1, 1986 in time for the May Day celebrations (decorations for this event are still in place in Pripyat today) but the plans were interrupted when on April 26 the Chernobyl disaster occurred a few kilometers away. The park was opened for a couple of hours on April 27 to keep the city people entertained before the announcement to evacuate the city was made.

Polissya hotel
The Polissya hotel is one of the highest buildings in the abandoned city of Pripyat, Ukraine (which was affected by the Chernobyl disaster). It was built in mid-1970s to house delegations and guests visiting the Chernobyl Power Plant. These days, the hotel is half-ruined. The hotel is featured in the video game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Russian Woodpecker
The Russian Woodpecker was a notorious Soviet radio signal that could be sporadically heard on the shortwave radio bands worldwide between July 1976 and December 1989. It sounded like a sharp, repetitive tapping noise, at 10 Hz, giving rise to the "Woodpecker" name. The random frequency hops disrupted legitimate broadcast, amateur radio, commercial aviation communications, utility transmissions, and resulted in thousands of complaints by many countries worldwide.

Duga-3 (western) transmitter
Duga-3 ("duga" means "arc") or "Steel Yard" was a Soviet experimental over-the-horizon radar (OTH) system. It was developed for the Soviet ABM early-warning network. The system operated from 1976 to 1989. Two stations of Duga-3 were installed: a western system around Chernobyl and an eastern system in Siberia. The transmitter for the western Duga-3 was located a few kilometers southwest of Chernobyl (south of Minsk, northwest of Kiev).
