Kirovsk, Ukraine

Kirovsk is a city in Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine. Population is 35,199 (2001). Kirovsk was founded in 1764. Its history follows closely the history of industrial development in the Eastern Ukraine. The town grew when coal mines were set up in the area; reaching its peak size in the 1980s. The landscape around the town still has pyramid-shaped men made hills, they are the by-products of the coal mine development and make the area look somewhat surreal.

Lysychansk

Lysychansk is a city in the Luhansk Oblast of south-eastern Ukraine. The city is designated as its own separate raion (district) within the oblast, and is located on the high right bank of the Seversky Donets River, approximately 90 km from the oblast capital, Luhansk. Population on May 1, 2010 - 106.211 thousands. (Municipality - 122.194 thousands. ) (2010) Area — - 95.64 km ² (municipality - 115.25 km ²) (2010). In 1952, Lysychansk became the regional center.
