Zolota Lypa River
Zolota Lypa is a river in western Ukraine. It flows through Berezhany district, forming the large Berezhany lake north of Berezhany. It is a left tributary of Dniester, belonging to the Black Sea basin. Zolota Lypa both in Polish and Ukrainian means "a golden lime-tree". The river with the opposite meaning Hnyla Lypa (rotten lime-tree) flows parallel 30 km west from Berezhany.

Zavaliv
Zavaliv is a village (formerly a town) in the western part of Pidhaitsi Raion of Ternopil Oblast of western Ukraine. Until 1990 Zavaliv belonged to Berezhany Raion. The village is situated on the right bank of Zolota Lypa (stands for "Golden Lime Tree") river, 18 km away from the district center of Pidhaitsi. Hamlet Kamiana Hora was united with the village. Due to the resettlement of people, hamlet Zamche was removed from the registration data.

Berezhany Castle
The Berezhany Castle (Ukrainian: Бережанський замок, Berezhans'kyi zamok) round which the modern town of Berezhany has sprung up, was built on an island in the Zolota Lypa River in the 1530s and 1540s by Mikołaj Sieniawski as the main residence of the Sieniawski magnate family. In 1630, the castle's fortifications were expanded. It was so well fortified that neither Khmelnitsky's Cossacks (in 1648 and 1648) nor the Turks (in 1675) succeeded in taking it.

Pidhaitsi Raion
Pidhaitsi Raion is a district in the western part of Ternopil Oblast, western Ukraine. It is part of the historic area known as Halychyna (Galicia). The administrative center is the city of Pidhaitsi. The Koropets river flows through the district. This raion was formed as a separate district on December 6, 1991 by a decree of the Ukrainian parliament. Before that it was part of neighbouring Berezhanskyi Raion.

It is the administrative center of Berezhanskyi Raion, and lies about 100 km from Lviv and 50 km from the oblast capital, Ternopil. The city has a population of about 20,000, and is about 400 m above sea level. The yearly temperature in Berezhany ranges from −35 °C in winter to 40 °C in summer.
