Hall i' th' Wood railway station

Hall i' th' Wood railway station is the last stop before Bolton on the Northern Rail franchise's Ribble Valley Line line into Blackburn and Clitheroe in England. The station opened on 29 September 1986. It is located in the middle of a housing estate and forms an unofficial footpath between the two sides. In March 2008 work began on a new car park for the station. The name is not a misprint - generations of local accents and dialects have ensured Hall i' th' Wood maintains its local spelling.

Bromley Cross railway station

Bromley Cross railway station, situated in Bromley Cross, a suburb to the north of Bolton, England, is served by the Northern Rail 'Ribble Valley' line 2+⁄4 miles north of Bolton. The station is just south of the point where the double line merges into one. The single line continues through Entwistle station towards Blackburn with a passing loop at Darwen station.

Fred Dibnah

Frederick "Fred" Dibnah MBE (28 April 1938 – 6 November 2004), born in Bolton, was an English steeplejack and television personality, with a keen interest in mechanical engineering. Dibnah was born in a country which then relied heavily upon coal to fuel its industry. As a child he was fascinated by the steam engines which powered the many textile mills in Bolton, but he paid particular attention to chimneys and the men who worked on them.

Ye Olde Man & Scythe

Ye Olde Man & Scythe public house on Churchgate, in Bolton, England was first recorded by name in 1251 making it one of the ten oldest public houses in Britain and the oldest in Bolton. The present form of the name is a pseudoarchaism derived from the Man and Scythe Inn; the name is from the crest of the Pilkington family which consists of a reaper using a scythe, alluding to a tradition about one of the early members of the family.
