Matley Bog

Matley Bog is an ancient woodland bog in the New Forest, Hampshire, England. It is notable for the presence of the rare ant, Formica candida, sometimes called the shining bog ant, which was discovered there in the early 20th century by Horace Donisthorpe. The wetter areas contain the rare and diminutive bog orchid The stream that runs axially through the bog drains at its eastern end into the infant Beaulieu River.

New Forest District

New Forest is a local government district in Hampshire, England. It is named after the New Forest. It was created on 1 April 1974, and was a merger of the borough of Lymington, New Forest Rural District and part of Ringwood and Fordingbridge Rural District. The district is one of the most populated in England not to be a unitary authority. It was recommended by the Banham Commission to become one in 1995, but this case was vetoed by the government of the day.

Bartley Lodge

The Bartley Lodge is a lodge near Cadnam in Hampshire, England, within the boundaries of the New Forest National Park. It was built in the 18th century to take advantage of the hunting offered in the surrounding New Forest. The building is now a country house hotel. Most famously, the eminent geologist Sir Charles Lyell spent his childhood here.
