Barrow upon Soar

Barrow upon Soar is a large village in northern Leicestershire, in the Soar Valley between Leicester and Loughborough. It has a population of around 5,000 and is part of the Charnwood local government district. It lies on the east bank of the River Soar at its confluence with the Fishpool Brook, and is just opposite the A6 from Quorn. The village is on the Midland Main Line, and Ivanhoe Line trains stop at the Barrow-upon-Soar railway station.

Loughborough Rural District

The Loughborough Rural District was a rural district of Leicestershire, England, from 1894 to 1935/1936. It was created by the Local Government Act 1894 and covered that part of the Loughborough Rural Sanitary District in Leicestershire. It was split, under the review caused by the Local Government Act 1929, to expand the existing Barrow upon Soar Rural District, Castle Donington Rural District, with parts going to various urban districts.

Barrow-upon-Soar railway station

Barrow-upon-Soar railway station serves the large village of Barrow-upon-Soar in Leicestershire, England. The station is located on the Midland Main Line between Leicester and Loughborough. The first station at Barrow was opened in 1840 by the Midland Counties Railway, which shortly joined the North Midland Railway and the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway to form the Midland Railway. It was originally known simply as Barrow, but became Barrow-upon-Soar in 1871.

Woodhouse, Leicestershire

Woodhouse, often known to locals as Old Woodhouse, is a small village in the heart of Charnwood, England. Located between the larger Woodhouse Eaves and Quorn villages, this picturesque village, with a mixture of small cottages and large modern houses, is one of the most expensive villages in the county. It is a commuter village for both Leicester and Loughborough, as well as further afield. Beaumanor Hall, ancestral home of the Herrick family, was used as a listening station during the war.

Soar Valley

The Soar Valley in Leicestershire, England is the basin of the River Soar, which rises south of Leicester and flows north through Charnwood before meeting the River Trent at Trent Lock on the Nottinghamshire border. Soar Valley embraces the large villages of Quorn, Mountsorrel, Barrow upon Soar, Birstall, Rothley and Sileby and a number of smaller communities all on or near the River Soar as it flows from Leicester to Loughborough in Leicestershire.
