Sandown-Shanklin Urban District

Sandown-Shanklin was an urban district on the Isle of Wight, England, from 1933. It was created by the merger of Shanklin and Sandown urban districts along with part of Isle of Wight Rural District. http://www. visionofbritain. org. uk/relationships. jsp?u_id=10100963&c_id=10001043 It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, to form part of the South Wight district.

America Wood

America Wood is a 21.4 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the Isle of Wight, notified in 1986. Legend has it that the name derives from the use of oak trees grown here to build ships utilised in the American War of Independence. However, the name Americas Wood appears on Andrews Map of the Island in 1769, six years before the outbreak of the War of Independence.

Bonchurch Landslips

Bonchurch Landslips is a 28.2 hectare site of special scientific interest which is located north-east of Ventnor. The site was notified in 1977 for both its biological and geological features.

Lake railway station

Lake railway station is a station on the Isle of Wight serving the village of Lake. Until the construction of an interchange station with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Smallbrook Junction in 1991, this station was the newest on the island having opened in 1987. The Station is formed of only a single wooden platform with a shelter. The trains that serve this station are Class 483s. Battle of Bonchurch

The Battle of Bonchurch took place sometime in late July 1545 at Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight. No source of information states a specific date, although it could have happened on 21 July. The battle was a part of the wider Italian War of 1542–1546, and the battle took place during the 1545 French invasion of the Isle of Wight. Several landings were made by the French during the invasion of the Isle of Wight, including the one at Bonchurch.
