Penkill Castle

Penkill Castle is a 16th-century castle with 19th-century additions. It is situated around half a mile south of the village of Old Dailly, to the north-east of Girvan in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The 16th century tower was built by a branch of the Boyd family, relatives of the Earls of Kilmarnock, and extended several times. In the late 1850s, the Pre-Raphaelite artist William Bell Scott became friendly with the then owner of Penkill, Alice Boyd.

South Ayrshire

South Ayrshire is one of 32 council areas of Scotland, covering the southern part of Ayrshire. It borders onto Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire. The administrative boundaries were formed in 1996, and is a direct successor to the Kyle and Carrick district. The Conservative Party currently lead a minority administration in South Ayrshire, with Bill McKintosh as Leader of the Council and Winifred Sloan as Provost.

Lochspouts

Lochspouts Loch (NS 2885 0586) or Lochspouts was situated in a hollow, surrounded by hilly ground on three sides and bounded by a narrow trap dyke to the north. The land was once held by the Ferguson family of Kilkerran and lies in the Parish of Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The loch became a reservoir in the 19th century.
