Stumpy Tower

Stumpy Tower is a former gaol in Girvan, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It has been suggested that its popular name "Auld Stumpy" comes from the Gaelic Olladh Stiom Paidh, meaning "Great Circle of Justice". (The name of Knockcushan Street, upon which the tower sits, means "Hill of Justice".

Water of Girvan

The Water of Girvan (or River Girvan) (Scottish Gaelic: Garbhan / Abhainn Gharbhain) is a river in South Ayrshire, which has its source at Loch Braden Reservoir in the Carrick Forest section of Galloway Forest Park. This 28-mile river passes through the villages of Straiton, Kirkmichael and Dailly en route to the Firth of Clyde at Girvan Harbour.

Penkill Castle

Penkill Castle is a 16th-century castle with 19th-century additions. It is situated around half a mile south of the village of Old Dailly, to the north-east of Girvan in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The 16th century tower was built by a branch of the Boyd family, relatives of the Earls of Kilmarnock, and extended several times. In the late 1850s, the Pre-Raphaelite artist William Bell Scott became friendly with the then owner of Penkill, Alice Boyd.
