High Earnock

High Earnock is a private housing estate in Hamilton, Scotland and is a subdivision of the ancient district of Earnock, along with Little Earnock, Earnock Estate, and Meikle Earnock. It was built in the 1980s and has views across Clydesdale towards Motherwell, Shotts, Hillhouse Earnock Estate and Little Earnock. Udston mining disaster

The Udston mining disaster occurred in Hamilton, Scotland on Saturday, 28 May 1887 when 73 miners died in a firedamp explosion at Udston Colliery. Caused, it is thought, by unauthorised shot firing the explosion is said to be Scotland's second worst coal mining disaster. Keir Hardie, then Secretary of the Scottish Miners' Federation, denounced the deaths as murder a few days later.

Hillhouse, Hamilton

Hillhouse is a council-built housing estate on the western border of Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Civic amenities include Hillhouse Civic Centre, Hillhouse Library, and the Jock Stein Sports Centre and playing fields. Also in Hillhouse is the famous Burnbank Bowling Club, where Celtic manager Jock Stein was the Club's 2nd Champion in 1953.
