Dunragit

Dunragit is a village on the A75, between Stranraer and Glenluce at Old Luce, Wigtownshire, in Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway, south-west Scotland. The village grew up around the west gate of Dunragit House, an 18th century three-storey four-bay country house. (click on photo below) The major employer was always the Creamery, but this is no longer in use.

Glenluce Abbey

Glenluce Abbey, near to Glenluce, Wigtownshire, Scotland, was a Cistercian monastery called also Abbey of Luce or Vallis Lucis and founded around 1190 by Rolland or Lochlann, Lord of Galloway and Constable of Scotland. Following the Scottish Reformation in 1560, the abbey fell into disuse. George Chalmers "Caledonia" vol. III, p. 441, printed 1824, - Old Luce, and New Luce, parishes were formerly comprehended, in one extensive parish, called Glenluce.

Water of Luce

The Water of Luce is a river in Dumfries and Galloway, in south west Scotland. The Main Water of Luce rises in South Ayrshire, flows south to New Luce, where it is joined by the Cross Water of Luce, and flows into the Solway Firth at Luce Bay. The Luce is crossed by the eight-arch Glenluce Viaduct near to Glenluce. This once carried the Portpatrick Railway to Stranraer.

Soulseat Abbey

Saulseat or Soulseat Abbey was a Premonstratensian monastic community located in Inch, Wigtownshire, Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway, in the Gaelic-speaking south-west of Scotland. It was regarded as the first and the senior Premonstratensian house in the Kingdom of Scotland. The Obituary of Prémontré lists both King Fergus and Christian, bishop of Galloway (1154-86), as joint founders.

RAF West Freugh

RAF West Freugh is a Royal Air Force station located in Wigtownshire, five miles (8 km) south east of Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It has always been an armaments training school, either for handling or deployment of ordnance.
