Beeswing, Dumfries and Galloway

Beeswing is a small village in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. It was formerly known as Lochend in reference to its position near Loch Arthur, which lies to the east of the village and has been claimed as the setting for the Arthurian story of the Lady of the Lake. The village was renamed to honour the famous racing mare, Beeswing. The village formerly had a church, which has now been converted to a house.

Terregles

Terregles is a village and parish in Kirkcudbrightshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The name Terregles is said to be a corruption of Brythonic Tir-eglwys (Latin terra ecciesici, that is, Kirk land). The parish contains the beautiful ruin of Lincluden Abbey, and Terregles House, once the seat of William Maxwell, last Earl of Nithsdale. Confert Lord Herries of Terregles. To travel to Terregles from Dumfries the main artery out of the town is Terregles Street.

Terregles House

Terregles House was a late 18th-century country house, located near Terregles, around 4 kilometres west of Dumfries in south-west Scotland. It replaced an earlier tower house, which had served as the seat of the Lords Herries, and later the Earls of Nithsdale, until William Maxwell, the 5th Earl, forfeited his titles in 1716. In 1776, Winifred Maxwell, the granddaughter of the 5th Earl of Nithsdale, served as heir general to her father, inheriting the Terregles property.

Mabie

Mabie is a collection of mountain biking routes located in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland. The mountain bike routes are part of the 7Stanes project by the Forestry Commission throughout the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. The area has two loops for less experienced riders; the green graded 'Big Views' trail and the blue graded 'Woodhead' route. The 'Phoenix' trail is for the more experienced rider.
