Rhubodach
Rhubodach is a small settlement on the north-eastern shore of the Isle of Bute, Scotland. The name Rhubodach may come from the Gaelic Rubha a’ Bhodaich which translates as old man's point or promontory or alternatively may be from An Rubha Bhódaich meaning the Bute headland. Rhubodach lies at the north of Bute at the termination of the A886 road. From here a small ro-ro ferry sails the short distance over the Kyles of Bute to Colintraive in Argyll.

Burnt Islands
There is also a town named Burnt Islands on the southwest coast of Newfoundland, Canada and a town named Burntisland, on the east coast of Scotland. The Burnt Islands is the collective title for three small islands that lie in the Kyles of Bute off the west coast of the Scottish mainland. The islands are located at grid reference NS017752. Individually the Islands are known by their Gaelic names.

Colintraive
Colintraive is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Once the site where cattle were swum across the narrows to the Isle of Bute, a ferry now provides the back door to the island.

Kyles of Bute
The Kyles of Bute are a narrow sea channel which separates the northern end of the Isle of Bute from the Cowal peninsula, part of the Scottish mainland. The narrowest strait is only some 300m across and is spanned by the Calmac ferry from Rhubodach to Colintraive. The Kyles are split into the east and west kyles. The east kyle (An Caol an Ear) runs from Rothesay Bay north west up to the entrance to Loch Riddon.

Eilean Dubh, Kyles of Bute
This particular Eilean Dubh is sometimes known as Glen Caladh Island and is situated just off the Cowal peninsula in the Kyles of Bute. The island is around 0.3 kilometres along its longest length and rises to a height of 19 metres above sea level. It is almost entirely covered by woodland. Although Eilean Dubh is uninhabited the owners of the island have their family graveyard here. There is also a light to aid navigation at the northern tip of the island.
