Penmachno

Penmachno is a village in the isolated upland valley of Cwm Penmachno, 4 miles south of Betws-y-Coed in the county of Conwy, north Wales. It is renowned as the home of Bishop William Morgan (1545–1604), who lived at Tŷ Mawr, Y Wybrnant, near the village. He was one of the leading scholars of his day, having mastered Hebrew in addition to Latin and Greek. He was the first to translate the Bible in its entirety into Welsh.

Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant

Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant is a house located in the Wybrnant Valley, in the parish of Penmachno, near Betws-y-Coed in Conwy County Borough, North Wales. It was the birthplace of Bishop William Morgan, first translator of the whole Bible into Welsh. Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant is owned by the National Trust and has been sensitively restored to its probable 16th-century appearance.

River Lledr

The River Lledr is a river in North Wales and the second major tributary of the River Conwy. The Lledr has its source on the eastern slopes of Ysgafell Wen, which lies between Moel Siabod and Cnicht. It flows in a north-easterly direction towards Blaenau Dolwyddelan, where Ceunant Ty'n y Ddol joins it, then flows under the so-called Roman Bridge and past Dolwyddelan, where Afon Penamnen joins it.

River Machno

The River Machno is a river in Snowdonia, North Wales. It is the first major tributary of the River Conwy, which it joins south of Betws-y-coed, just past the impressive Penmachno Falls. It has its source in the slopes at the head of the Penmachno valley, and flows through the villages of Cwm Penmachno and Penmachno.

Arllechwedd

The ancient Welsh cantref of Arllechwedd in north-west Wales was part of the kingdom of Gwynedd for much of its history until it was included in the new county of Caernarfonshire, together with Arfon and Llŷn under the terms of the Statute of Rhuddlan in 1284. In the middle ages the Cantref Arllechwedd was one of the core territories of the Kingdom of Gwynedd and formed the entire west bank of the River Conwy.
