Parkway Playhouse

The Parkway Playhouse, located in Burnsville, North Carolina, is the oldest continually operating summer theater in North Carolina. It was established in 1947 by W.R. Taylor, a professor of drama from the Woman's College of North Carolina, which later became the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The Parkway Playhouse, for many years, was operated as a summer stock venue and a sponsored extension of the drama departments at UNC-G and the University of Miami.

Mitchell Falls

Mitchell Falls is a 25-foot waterfall located on private property in Yancey County, North Carolina on the slope of Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain in the Appalachian Mountain chain, and highest point in the eastern United States. Both the falls and the mountain are named for Elisha Mitchell, a professor who, while confirming his measurements of the mountain, fell over a rocky ledge above the falls to his death on June 27, 1857.

Mount Craig (North Carolina)

Mount Craig, 6,647 feet, is the second highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and second only to 6,684 feet Mount Mitchell in eastern North America. It is located in the Black Mountains in Yancey County, North Carolina. The mountain lies just north of Mt. Mitchell and is within Mount Mitchell State Park and the Pisgah National Forest.
