La Quinta Formation

The La Quinta Formation is a Mesozoic geologic formation which crops out in the Cordillera de Mérida and Serranía del Perijá, Venezuela. At its type locality near La Grita, it consists of a basal dacitic tuff followed by interlayered sandstones, tuffs, siltstones and rare limestones. Dinosaur remains diagnostic to the genus level are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation. Fossil associations suggest that the La Quinta Formation is of Early - Middle Jurassic age.

Táchira helicopter crash

The Táchira helicopter crash was the loss of a Venezuela Army helicopter and its 18 occupants on 3 May 2009. The helicopter crashed at around midday local time near El Alto de Rubio in the north-western state of Táchira in Venezuela. All eighteen people aboard the aircraft were killed. The dead included Brigadier-General Domingo Faneite, two army pilots, fourteen other army personnel and one civilian, named as Cristian Velazquez.
