Parelheiros (district of São Paulo)

Parelheiros is rural district located in the extreme south of the city of São Paulo, and is also one of the districts with the largest territorial area. Very little of this area is inhabited, and is covered with reserves of the Atlantic Forest. In Parelheiros there are also two indigenous villages of a Guaraní subgroup with about one thousand residents. The region also received many German immigrants in the beginning of 1800.

Salesópolis is a municipality in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population in 2004 was 15,281, the density was 35.87/km² and the area is 426 km². The Tietê River flows in the northern part, much of the southern portion of the land are mountainous and also heavily forested with trees and has no accessible roads and is also a parkland. The roads are around Salesópolis.

Itariri is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population in 2004 is 14,642 and the area is 2,745.8 km². The elevation is 55 m. This place name comes from the Tupi language. Itariri is linked with the BR-101. The urban area is within the Atlantic Ocean and is the westernmost and much of the area are dense forest including Vale do Ribeira.

Itanhaém

Itanhaém is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population in 2004 is 85,294, the density is 142.39/km² and the area is 599 km². The elevation is 0 m. This place name comes from the Tupi word itá-nha'ẽ, meaning the plate of rock. Some other tupinologists (people who study the ancient language Tupi, spoken by the natives back in the 16th century) believe itanhaém means, ita = rock - and nhaém = that cries; due to the rocky coast and the waves that constantly hit it.
