Kardzhali Reservoir

The Kardzhali Reservoir is located near Kardzhali town in Kardzhali Province, Bulgaria. The reservoir was recently seeded artificially with European perch. The fish was taken from the Ovcharitsa reservoir. The first historical moment of the reservoir was in the 1970s, when it was artificially seeded with sheatfish. Nowadays there are 100 kg representatives. Later, 45,000 carp were introduced into the reservoir as well. The Arda River feeds into the Kardzhali Reservoir.

Kardzhali Province

Kardzhali Province (Bulgarian: Област Кърджали, Oblast Kardzhali) is a province of southern Bulgaria, neighbouring Greece with the Greek regional units of Xanthi, Rhodope and Evros to the south and east. Kardzhali Province area is 3209.1 km². Its main city is Kardzhali.

Battle of Kardzhali

The Battle of Kircaali or Battle of Kardzhali was part of the First Balkan War between the armies of Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire. It took place on 21 October 1912, when the Bulgarian Haskovo Detachment defeated the Ottoman Kırcaali Detachment of Yaver Pasha and permanently joined Kardzhali and the Eastern Rhodopes to Bulgaria. The anniversary of that event is celebrated annually on 21 October as a holiday of the city.
