Zagore

Zagore; also Zagorie, Zagora, Zagoria was a vaguely defined medieval region in Bulgaria. Its name is of Slavic origin and means "beyond [i.e. south of] the Balkan Balkan] mountains". The region was first mentioned as Ζαγορια in Medieval Greek (in an Old Bulgarian translation it was rendered as Загорїа) when it was ceded to the First Bulgarian Empire by the Byzantine Empire during the rule of Tervel of Bulgaria in the very beginning of the 8th century.

Sazliyka

The Sazliyka is a river in southeastern Bulgaria, a left tributary of the Maritsa. It originates in the Sarnena Sredna Gora mountains. In its upper course until Radnevo, it is also known as the Rakitnitsa or Syuyutliyka. The river is 145.4 kilometres in length and has a drainage basin of 3,293 square kilometres. Its average discharge at Galabovo is 17 cubic metres per second. The Galabovo Reservoir is located along the river.

Karanovo culture

The Karanovo culture is a neolithic culture (Karanovo I-III ca. 62nd to 55th centuries BC) named for the Bulgarian village of Karanovo . This site was inhabited more or less continuously from the early 7th to the early 2nd millennia BC.

Upper Thracian Plain

The Upper Thracian Plain (Bulgarian: Горнотракийска низина, Gornotrakiyska nizina) constitutes the northern part of the historical region of Thrace. It is located in southern Bulgaria, between the Sredna Gora mountains to the north and west; the Rhodopes, Sakar and Strandzha to the south; and the Black Sea to the east. A fertile agricultural region, the Upper Thracian Plain proper has an area of 6,032 square kilometres and an average elevation of 168 metres .
