Until January 1, 2007 Sydals was a municipality in South Jutland County on the southern part of the island of Als off the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 95 km², and had a total population of 6,527 (2005). Its last mayor was Jens Peter Kock. The site of its municipal council was the town of Hørup. Other towns in the municipality were Høruphav, Lysabild, Mommark, Skovby, and Sønderby.

Augustenborg, Denmark
Augustenborg is a town with a population of 3,279 (1 January 2011) on Als Island in Sønderborg Municipality, Region of Southern Denmark in Denmark. The town lies at the head of Als Fjord. To the east is the Little Belt. Ferry service connects Augustenborg to the island of Funen from the nearby town of Fynshav. It was the main town of Augustenborg Municipality until its merger into Sønderborg Municipality in 2007.

Augustenborg Municipality - Until January 1, 2007 Augustenborg was a municipality in South Jutland County on the island of Als off the east coast of the Jutland Peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 53 km², and had a total population of 6,577 (2005). Its latest mayor was Åse Nygaard. The site of its municipal council was the town of Augustenborg. Augustenborg Municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).

Als (island)
Als is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea. It lies east of the Jutland peninsula of Denmark at the town of Sønderborg, and north of the German coast at Schleswig. Covering an area of 321 km² (124 sq. miles), the island has a total population of 51,322 as of 1 January 2010. It encompasses the Sønderborg Municipality as per January 1, 2007. To the north and east of the island are the waters of the Little Belt, to the south is Flensborg Fjord, and to the west is Als Fjord and Als Strait (Alssund).
