Pirkanmaa

Pirkanmaa, or the Tampere Region, is a region of Finland. It borders on the regions of Satakunta, Tavastia Proper, Päijänne Tavastia, Southern Ostrobothnia and Central Finland. As the English name implies, the city of Tampere is the regional centre.

Paarlahti

Paarlahti is Finland's only fjord, and it is situated in Teisko, in Kämmenniemi in the lake of Näsijärvi. Paarlahti is about 10 km long and has a maximum depth of about 60 m. Paarlahti has been called the longest inland fjord of Scandinavia, although it does not really resemble the large fjords of Norway. However, its long and narrow shape, its depth and steep shores qualify it as a fjord. Usually there are no islands in a fjord, but Paarlahti has a few.

Kuru, Finland

Kuru is a former municipality of Finland, now part of the town of Ylöjärvi. Kuru is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Pirkanmaa region. Kuru lies 50 kilometres north of Tampere. The municipality had a population of 2,782 and covered an area of 820.48 km² of which 103.53 km² is water. The population density was 3.4 inhabitants per km². The service industry is the primary employer for the area. Kuru was consolidated with the town of Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2009.

Näsijärvi

Näsijärvi is a lake 95 metres above sea level, in Pirkanmaa region, Finland. Näsijärvi is the biggest lake in the Tampere region at 256 square kilometres in size. The city of Tampere was built around the rapids of Tammerkoski, through which the lake drains into Pyhäjärvi. The water quality of the lake has improved as forest industry has decreased the amount of waste water. There are boat cruising services on Näsijärvi.
