Cahiracon

Cahiracon, sometimes written as Caheracon, is a small coastal village and townland in County Clare, Ireland. The village is just off the R473 road and is directly across the Shannon Estuary from Foynes in County Limerick. It is home to Saint John Bosco Community College, founded in 2002 as the result of an amalgamation of two older institutions. Cahiracon is within the civil parish of Killadysert and barony of Clonderalaw.

Aughinish, County Limerick

Aughinish is an island in the estuary of the river Shannon, located in County Limerick near Foynes. The island is famous as the seat of Rusal Aughinish, the largest refinery to process bauxite into alumina in Europe. Despite the fact that most of the island is occupied by industry, also the first Irish butterfly sanctuary is housed on Aughinish. The reserve is located in an abandoned quarry.

Shannon Estuary

The Shannon Estuary is a large estuary where the River Shannon flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The estuary has Limerick at its head and its seaward limits are marked by Loop Head to the north and Kerry Head to the south. The estuary defines the main boundary between County Kerry/County Limerick to the south and County Clare to the north.
