Iran Aseman Airlines Flight 6895

Iran Aseman Airlines Flight 6895, an Itek Air Boeing 737-219 Advanced, was a charter flight operated on behalf of Iran Aseman Airlines which crashed on 24 August 2008 near Manas International Airport in Kyrgyzstan while en route to Imam Khomeini International Airport, Tehran, Iran. It crashed while returning to the airport of origin after experiencing technical difficulties. Reports state that members of the crew reported "technical issues" with the plane shortly after take off.

Manas International Airport

Manas International Airport (Kyrgyz: Манас эл аралык аэропорту) is the main international airport in Kyrgyzstan located 25 kilometres north-northwest of the capital Bishkek. The airport is operational 24 hours and its ILS system meets ICAO CAT II standards, which enables aircraft operations in low ceiling (30 meters) and visibility (350 meters).

Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences

Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences (official name National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan), originally part of the Soviet Academy of Sciences, was established as an independent entity by government decree in December 1993. The aims of the Academy are to carry out research in natural, engineering, and social sciences, to train scientists in all fields of knowledge, to advise the government in matters of scientific policy, and to disseminate knowledge.

Aksy

Aksy is a small town in southern Kyrgyzstan which gained notoriety in 2002 when police and police fired into a crowd of unarmed demonstrators, killing six. The demonstrations were triggered by a political dispute between a local member of the national parliament, Azimbek Beknazarov, and Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev over an agreement with China that ceded some territory in the high Tien Shan range to China.
