North Island Main Trunk

|} The North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) is the main railway line in the North Island of New Zealand, linking Wellington, the capital, and Auckland, the largest city, via Paraparaumu, Palmerston North, Taihape, National Park, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti, Hamilton, and Pukekohe. It is 681 kilometres in length, built to the standard New Zealand rail gauge of 1067.

Makatote River

The Makatote River is a river of the centre of New Zealand's North Island. It flows west from the slopes of Mount Ruapehu before entering rough hill country and veering southwest. It joins with the waters of several smaller streams to become the Manganui o te Ao River, part of the Whanganui River system.

Raurimu Spiral

The Raurimu Spiral is a single-track railway spiral, starting with a horseshoe curve, overcoming a 139 m height difference, in the central North Island of New Zealand, on the North Island Main Trunk Railway. It is a notable feat of civil engineering, having been called an 'engineering masterpiece'. The Institute of Professional Engineers (NZ) has designated the spiral as a significant Engineering heritage site.

New Zealand State Highway 48

State Highway 48 is one of New Zealand's shortest State Highways. It provides access to Whakapapa skifield on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu. It is roughly 7 km long and, with the exception of the junction with SH 47, it lies entirely within Tongariro National Park.
