Raurimu Spiral

The Raurimu Spiral is a single-track railway spiral, starting with a horseshoe curve, overcoming a 139 m height difference, in the central North Island of New Zealand, on the North Island Main Trunk Railway. It is a notable feat of civil engineering, having been called an 'engineering masterpiece'. The Institute of Professional Engineers (NZ) has designated the spiral as a significant Engineering heritage site.

Owhango

Owhango {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:39|00.0|S|175|22.6|E|region:NZ_type:city(200)|| |primary |name= }} is a small town in New Zealand situated about 20 km south of Taumarunui on State Highway 4. Formerly Owhango was a Mill Town, milling native timbers from around the local area. The mill burned to the ground in the 1970s.

New Zealand State Highway 48

State Highway 48 is one of New Zealand's shortest State Highways. It provides access to Whakapapa skifield on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu. It is roughly 7 km long and, with the exception of the junction with SH 47, it lies entirely within Tongariro National Park.

Chateau Tongariro

Chateau Tongariro is a New Zealand hotel and resort complex. It is located close to Whakapapa skifield on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu, and is close to the volcanic peaks of Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe, within the boundaries of Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's oldest. Now officially titled Bayview Chateau Tongariro, the building was completed in 1929 and, despite extensive refurbishment, still retains much of the style of the pre-Depression era.

Makatote River

The Makatote River is a river of the centre of New Zealand's North Island. It flows west from the slopes of Mount Ruapehu before entering rough hill country and veering southwest. It joins with the waters of several smaller streams to become the Manganui o te Ao River, part of the Whanganui River system.
