Owhango

Owhango {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:39|00.0|S|175|22.6|E|region:NZ_type:city(200)|| |primary |name= }} is a small town in New Zealand situated about 20 km south of Taumarunui on State Highway 4. Formerly Owhango was a Mill Town, milling native timbers from around the local area. The mill burned to the ground in the 1970s.

Kakahi, New Zealand

Kakahi is a small village about 10 kilometres up the Whanganui River from Taumarunui in New Zealand. It can be accessed from State Highway 4 using access roads Waitea Road or Whakapapa Road. Kakahi derives its name from the Kakahi fresh water shellfish which may be found in the area. The North Island Main Trunk Railway passes through Kakahi over the Kakahi Stream via a large concrete pillar and steel girder bridge.

Whakapapa River

The Whakapapa River in New Zealand trickles off the Whakapapa skifield of Mount Ruapehu, down the western slopes of the mountain through Owhango before finally merging with the Whanganui River just east of Kakahi at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:38|55.92|S|175|24.5|E|region:NZ_type:river|| | |name= }}. Peter McIntyre had a home overlooking the confluence of the Whanganui and Whakapapa rivers, and painted several oil landscapes of the Whakapapa River.

Pungapunga River

The Pungapunga River is a river of the Manawatu-Wanganui Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows predominantly southwest from the southeastern foothills of the Hahungaroa Range, reaching the Whanganui River five kilometres east of Taumarunui.

Manunui

Manunui is a small settlement in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located in the King Country region, about 4 km east of Taumarunui. Manunui is where State Highway 41 to Lake Taupo branches off from State Highway 4. Manunui Means Big Bird (Manu = bird, nui = big) At the 2001 census Manunui had a total listed population of 588 (51 fewer than 1996).
