Rangitikei
Rangitikei is an area in New Zealand that follows the course of State Highway 1, from just south of Waiouru with the QEII Army Memorial Museum, through Taihape, Mangaweka, Hunterville, Marton and Bulls, and then winds down a minor road to the coast at Turakina & Scott’s Ferry. Often overlooked when accessing many New Zealand "search" menus, the area is emerging as one of the last few "undiscovered" regions for both home-grown and international tourists.

Moawhango River
The Moawhango River is a major river of the centre of New Zealand's North Island. It flows generally southwest from its sources in the Kaimanawa Range 35 kilometres to the east of Mount Ruapehu to reach Lake Moawhango at the southern end of the Rangipo Desert, 10 kilometres north of Waiouru. From here, the river flows southeast, passing the small settlement of Moawhango before its outflow into the Rangitikei River eight kilometres southeast of Taihape.

The Waikamaka River is a river of the Manawatu-Wanganui Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is a tributary of the Whakaurekou River, part of the Rangitikei River system. The Waikamaka flows northwest from its sources in the Ruahine Range to reach the Whakaurekou 15 kilometres east of Taihape.

Naval Communications Station Irirangi
The Naval Communications Station Irirangi of the Royal New Zealand Navy, which is 2 km north of Waiouru and near the Waiouru Army Camp, was established in WWII (1943) as the Waiouru W/T (Wireless Telegraph) Station. Its location, in the middle of the North Island, put it far away from the sea. The station was commissioned in July 1943, and at the peak period of the war had an establishment of about 150 personnel, of whom more than eighty were women.
