Kežmarok District
Kežmarok District is a district in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia. It is situated in the western part Prešov Region. Kežmarok district borders Stará Ľubovňa District, Levoča District, Poprad District, Sabinov District and Poland. It lies mainly on a foothills of High Tatras. The local Lutherans built it during a period of religious persecution, when they were allowed to erect only wooden churches. That is why even nails were made exclusively of wood. The construction was financially supported by Protestants from various countries, including Sweden and Denmark.
