It also included Saravale village until it was split off to form a separate commune in 2004. Igriș Abbey

Igriș Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery in Sânpetru Mare, Timiș County, Romania. The Igriș Abbey was founded in 1179 as a filial abbey of Pontigny. Here is attested the oldest library in the territory of present day Romania. Italian monk Rogerius wrote about the destruction of Igriș Abbey: „XXXII: De destructione Nove-uille et monasterii de Egres.
