Chaplygin, Lipetsk Oblast

Chaplygin is a town and the administrative center of Chaplyginsky District of Lipetsk Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Stanovaya Ryasa and Yagodnaya Ryasa Rivers, 85 kilometers north of Lipetsk. Population: 12,656; 13,656; 14,343. The settlement of Ust Stanovykh Ryas (Усть Становы́х Ряс) was founded on the territory of modern Chaplygin in the first half of the 17th century. It later grew into the village of Slobodskoye (Слободско́е).

Chaplyginsky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the eighteen in Lipetsk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,520 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Chaplygin. Population: 32,704; 36,069; 39,832. The population of Chaplygin accounts for 38.7% of the district's total population.
