Rudnya, Rudnyansky District, Smolensk Oblast

Rudnya is a town and the administrative center of Rudnyansky District of Smolensk Oblast, Russia, located on the Malaya Berezina River 68 kilometers northwest of Smolensk. Population: 10,030; 9,853; 11,032. It was first mentioned in 1363 as a settlement of Rodnya. It was granted town status in 1926. Rudnya is known as the maiden battle target of the famous Soviet multiple rocket launchers Katyusha.

Liozna

Liozna is an urban type settlement in Vitsebsk Voblast, Belarus, the capital of Liozna Raion. It is located close to the border with Russia by the Vitsebsk-Smolensk railroad branch and highway, on the Moshna River. Population: 6,753 (2005) The first known record of the Liozno shtetl (small town with a high Jewish population) is dated by 1654.
