The Vladimir Prison, colloquially known as "Vladimirsky Central" (Russian: Владимирский централ, from "Vladimir Central Prison"), is a prison for dangerous criminals in Vladimir, Russia, about 100 miles northeast of Moscow. It was established in 1783. Most are serving a minimum of 10 years, and some are imprisoned for life. This prison is the largest in Russia. Prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the complex served as an infamous prison for political prisoners of the Soviet regime.

Dormition Cathedral, Vladimir
Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir (sometimes translated Assumption Cathedral) used to be a mother church of medieval Russia in the 13th and 14th centuries. It is part of the World Heritage Site entitled White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal. The cathedral was commissioned by Andrew the Pious in his capital Vladimir and dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos, whom he promoted as the patron saint of his lands.

Sungir
Sungir is an Upper Paleolithic archaeological site in Russia and one of the earliest records of modern Homo sapiens in Europe. It is situated about 200 km east of Moscow, on the outskirts of Vladimir, and is dated to between 28,000 and 30,000 years ago. It served as a grave to an older man and two children and was discovered in 1955. The site was excavated between 1957 and 1977.

The Golden Gate of Vladimir (Russian: Zolotye Vorota, Золотые ворота), constructed between 1158 and 1164, is the only (albeit partially) preserved instance of the ancient Russian city gates. A museum inside focuses on the history of the Mongol invasion of Russia in the 13th century. The Golden Gates existed in the holiest cities of Eastern Orthodoxy - Jerusalem, Constantinople, and Kiev.
