Ghouta

Ghouta, is a collection of farms in Rif Dimashq close to the eastern part of Damascus, Syria. The Damascus Ghouta is a green agricultural belt surrounding the city of Damascus in the South and East. The Bawabet Dimashq (Damascus Gate), the largest restaurant in the world, is a family owned restaurant in Damascus, Syria, that opened in 2002. The structure cost $40 million to construct and is owned by Muhannad Samman. Douma is a Syrian district administratively belonging to Rif Dimashq Governorate, located to the north of the capital Damascus. At the 2004 Census it had a population of 433,719. Its administrative centre is the city of Douma.

Douma is a city in Syria. Its centre is about 10 km north-east of the centre of Damascus. Being the centre of Rif Dimashq governorate (which completely surrounds the Damascus Governorate), the town is also the administrative centre of Douma District. During the Syrian unrest, Douma has been a major flashpoint and has witnessed numerous demonstrations against the Syrian government and armed clashes against the Syrian Army and Security forces.

Officially opened in the mid-1970s, DAM is Syria's busiest international airport. In 2010, an estimated 5.5 million passengers used the airport, an increase of more than 50% since 2004. Since the onset of the Syrian civil war, the airport and the road leading to it have been closed intermittently, and many international airlines have ceased flights.
