Pharpar
Pharpar (or Pharphar in the Douay-Rheims Bible) is a biblical river in Syria. It is the less important of the two rivers of Damascus mentioned in the Book of Kings, now generally identified with the A`waj (i.e. crooked), though if the reference to Damascus be limited to the city, as in the Arabic version of the Old Testament, Pharpar would be the modern Taura. In the early Baedeker Guides it was identified as the Al-Sabirani, a fairly downstream tributary of the A`waj.

Battle of Maysalun
The Battle of Maysalun, also called The Battle of Maysalun Pass, was a battle fought between forces of the Kingdom of Syria and French forces on 23 July 1920 near the town of Maysalun, about 12 miles west of Damascus, towards the Lebanese border. At the battle, the better equipped and trained French forces decisively defeated the Arab forces.

Revolutionary Youth Union
Revolutionary Youth Union is the youth organization of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party in Syria. The chairman of the organisation is Dr. Adnan Arbash. Joining organisation starts mostly within the year 10 at schools and it is the partisan's track for active membership in the Ba'ath Party after – at least – 3 years of ideological preparation. RYU publishes al-Maseera newspaper and manage a nation-wide properties and investments (e.g. backpacker hostels).
