Baniyas

Baniyas is a city in Tartous Governorate, northwestern Syria, located at the foot of the hill of Qalaat el-Marqab (housing the Crusade castle of Marqab, Margat in western sources), 55 km to the south of Latakia (ancient Laodicea) and 35 km north of Tartous (ancient Tortosa), and a Catholic titular see under the Latin name of Balanea, which is now vacant. It is famous for its orchards and its export of wood.

The an-Nusayriyah Mountains, also known as al-Alawiyin Mountains (جبال العلويين / Jibāl al-‘Alawīyin)—both names referring to the Alawi sect which has traditionally lived there—or under their Syrian official name of Coastal Mountain Range (سلسلة الجبال الساحلية / Silsilat al-Jibāl al-Sāḥiliyah), are a mountain range in northwestern Syria running north-south, parallel to the coastal plain. Classically they were known as the Bargylus and under the Hashashins were known as the Jabal Bahra.

Cathedral of Our Lady of Tortosa

Tartus

Tartus is a city on the Mediterranean coast of Syria. Tartus is the second largest port city in Syria, and the largest city in Tartus Governorate. The population is 115,769 (2004 census). It borders Latakia to the north and Homs to the east and south. The native language in Tartus is Syrian Arabic. It is a major port city in Syria that brings in countless goods every day which then get shipped to the big cities. In the summer it is a vacation sport for many Syrians living in the city.
