Tomruksuyu is a town in Samandağ district of Hatay Province, Turkey. At {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:36|09|N|36|03|E||| | |name= }} it is to the north of the highway connecting Samandağ to Antakya (the capital of the province). The distance to Samandağ is 12 kilometres and to Antakya is 15 kilometres . The population of Tomruksuyu is 3347 as of 2011. The settlement was founded in 1807 during the Ottoman Empire era, after an earthquake.

115 Antioch earthquake

The 115 Antioch earthquake occurred on 13 December 115 AD. It had an estimated magnitude of 7.5 on the surface wave magnitude scale and an estimated maximum intensity of XI (extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale. Antioch and surrounding areas were devastated with a great loss of life and property. It triggered a local tsunami that badly damaged the harbour at Caesarea Maritima. The Roman Emperor Trajan was caught in the earthquake, as was his successor Hadrian.

Kuşalanı is a town in Samandağ district of Hatay Province, Turkey. At {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:36|06|N|36|00|E||| | |name= }} it is on the sate highway D.420 connecting Samandağ to Antakya (capital of the province). The distance to Samandağ is 3 kilometres and to Antakya is 22 kilometres . The population of Kuşalanı is 5425 as of 2011.

Vakıflı, Samandağ

Vakıflı Köyü is the only remaining ethnic Armenian village in Turkey. Located on the slopes of Musa Dagh in the Samandağ district of Hatay Province, the village overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and is within eyesight of the Syrian border. It is home to a community of about 130 Turkish-Armenians. The local Western Armenian dialect is very thick, and cannot be fully understood by other Western Armenians.

526 Antioch earthquake

The 526 Antioch earthquake was a major earthquake that hit Syria and Antioch in the Byzantine Empire in 526. It struck during late May, probably between May 20–29, at mid-morning, killing approximately 250,000 people. The earthquake was followed by a fire that destroyed most of the buildings left standing by the earthquake. The maximum intensity in Antioch is estimated to be between VIII (destructive) and IX (violent) on the Mercalli intensity scale.
