Simav River

The Simav or Susurluk River (Susurluk Çayı) is a river in Anatolian Turkey. Its course is 321 km long and its basin comprises 22 400 km. It was the classical Macestus. In the 19th century, it was known as the Mikalick. The Simav has its source in Kütahya Province, from which it flows north across the plain of Simav into Balıkesir Province. There is a reservoir at the Çaygören Dam, out of which the Simav flows past Susurluk and meets the Adirnas.

2011 Kütahya earthquake

The 2011 Kütahya earthquake was a strong magnitude 5.8 Mw earthquake that struck inland near a populous region of western Turkey at 23:15 EEST on Thursday, 19 May 2011. With an epicenter just to the east of Simav, it occurred at an estimated depth of 9.1 kilometers (5.7 mi), resulting in strong shaking in much of Kütahya. The earthquake caused panic among many locals, and power was lost to most of Simav.

Selendi is a town and district of Manisa Province in the Aegean region of Turkey. According to the 2000 census, population of the district is 26,061 of which 8,095 live in the town of Selendi. The district covers an area of 701 km, and the town lies at an elevation of 431 m .
