2008 Ukraine coal mine collapse

The 2008 Ukrainian coal mine collapse occurred at the Karl Marx Coal Mine in the city of Yenakiieve, Donetsk Oblast of eastern Ukraine on June 8, 2008. The mine collapse was said to have been caused by a gas pipe explosion. The explosion occurred at a depth of about 1,750 feet . 37 miners were trapped underground at the time of the collapse, located 3,301 feet below the surface of the earth.

Mius River

Mius is a river in Eastern Europe that flows through Ukraine and Russia. It starts in the Donets Range of Donetsk Oblast and flows through Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine and Rostov Oblast, Russia into the Mius Firth of the Sea of Azov, west of Taganrog. Its length is 258 km. During the World War II the Germans created a heavily fortified line, known as Miusfront or Mius-Front, that was an arena of fierce battles during the Battle of Rostov (1943).
