Lutsk Synagogue

The Great Synagogue of Lutsk is a synagogue in Lutsk in western Ukraine. Built in 1626, it is an example of a fortress synagogue, built both to serve as a house of prayer, and as a refuge in violent times.

Great Synagogue, Lutsk

The Great Synagogue in Lutsk, Ukraine, is a Renaissance building with a tower. Located in the Jewish quarter, it was the religious, educational and community centre of Lutsk Jews until the Second World War. For a long period, it also served as a defensive building. Partially destroyed in 1942, the synagogue was restored in 1970s. It is now used as a sports club.

Lubart's Castle

Lutsk High Castle, also known as Lubart's Castle, began its life in the mid-14th century as the fortified seat of Gediminas' son Liubartas (Lubart), the last ruler of united Galicia-Volhynia. It is the most prominent landmark of Lutsk, Ukraine and as such appears on the 200 hryvnia bill. Another city castle, built by the Czartoryski family starting from the 14th century, is now a ruin.
