Schwyll Aquifer

Schwyll Aquifer (pronounced 'Shwill') was historically known as 'the Great Spring of Glamorgan'. Until recently, Welsh Water used the resurgence at the Schwyll Spring near Ewenny as the main source of water for the Bridgend area. It now functions as a backup supply and as such has a number of associated source protection zones policed by the Environment Agency.

Island Farm

Island Farm was a Prisoner of War Camp (Camp 198) on the outskirts of the town of Bridgend, South Wales. It hosted a number of Axis prisoners, mainly German, and was the scene of the largest escape attempt by German POWs in Britain during World War II. Near the end of the war it became known as Special Camp XI. The list of former inmates includes many senior SS military leaders, who were awaiting extradition to the Nuremberg trials.

ROF Bridgend

ROF Bridgend, (Filling Factory No. 2), located in Bridgend, South Wales, was one of the largest of sixteen World War II, UK government-owned, Royal Ordnance Factory munitions Filling Factories. Of great significance to the Britain's war effort, at its peak of production it employed around 40,000 people — said to be the largest ever factory in Britain's history.

Bridgend College

Bridgend College is a further education college based in Bridgend, Wales. Founded in 1928 as the Bridgend Mining and Technical Institute, the college today has four campuses in Bridgend, Pencoed and Maesteg. Courses offered include NVQs and BTECs. The college also offers a range of higher education courses, including HNCs, HNDs and degrees. It is the largest provider of higher education courses of any FE college in Wales.
