Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival

The Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival takes place in Indio, California. Since 1947 the annual festival has been held to celebrate the Date Palm harvest in the Coachella Valley. The event is held in February on the Riverside County Fairgrounds. The Coachella Valley has about 250,000 date palms are planted on approximately 5,000 acres which produces 35,000,000 pounds of dates annually. The agricultural industry is responsible for 95 percent of the nation's crop.

Coachella Valley

Coachella Valley is a large valley landform in Southern California. The valley extends for approximately 45 mi in Riverside County southeast from the San Bernardino Mountains to the saltwater Salton Sea, the largest lake in California. It is approximately 15 mi wide along most of its length, bounded on the west by the San Jacinto Mountains and the Santa Rosa Mountains and on the north and east by the Little San Bernardino Mountains.

Indio is a city in Riverside County, California, United States, located in the Coachella Valley of Southern California's Colorado Desert region. It lies 26 miles east of Palm Springs, 70 miles east of Riverside, and 125 miles east of Los Angeles. It is about 86 miles north of Mexicali, Baja California on the U.S. -Mexican border. The word Indio is Spanish for Indian.

Indio High School is a public high school for grades 9-12. It is located in Indio, California and has a current enrollment of about 2,403 students. Its mascot is a Rajah (a king or prince in India).
